#Podcast based on BigBuy and Convertix Google Update recovery case study, including real case insights.

In the last #Podcast of Marketing4eCommerce (Viko Group) , moderated by the amazing Rubén Bastón Meira , Amelia Tovar Esteves , Digital Marketing Director at BigBuy, David Ruiz Sánchez, Head of SEO & Partner at Convertix, and Alex Karnatowski, Founder & CEO at Convertix, shared some insights about one of the most mystique topics in the SEO World: how to recover from a Google Core Update.

Only a few weeks after the project start in February, the website was hit by the Google March 2024 Core Update. According to Google “The March 2024 core update is a more complex update than our usual core updates, involving changes to multiple core systems. It also marks an evolution in how we identify the helpfulness of content.”

For full information please read What web creators should know about our March 2024 core update and new spam policies on Google Search Central.

The domain lost almost 60% of organic visibility in Spain, one of the core markets, based on SISTRIX organic visibility graph. SEO performance was also affected in other core markets. Our project scope includes 31 markets in 24 languages.

Some results since the recovery 💪

🚀 +109% organic visibility growth in Spain, +107% in Germany, +93% in France, +127% in Italy, +58% in Portugal… (Sistrix Data)

🚀 +30% qualified leads (YoY, pre-update client data)

🚀 -12% CPL (YoY, pre-update client data)

What are the main learnings from this case study in my perspective?

✅ A Google Core Update may hit any website and in most cases you have actually not done anything intentionally wrong.

Many businesses just grow fast and they can not be perfect in every single aspect of their growth. They create amazing services and products and take care of their clients. Website aspects may not be the highest priority on every single aspect of it. And that’s how growth actually works.

BigBuy is an European wholesale & dropshipping provider, that provides many solutions for the eCommerce sector, that grew from 0 to 120+ Million EUR turnover in the last 10 years! BigBuy generated turnover of 123 million euros (Source: Ecommerce News).

✅ Speed is (almost) everything. Identifying the problem, getting together as a team (client and agency) and start implementing the right solutions ASAP is key to a fast recovery.

Over the past 10+ years I have seen so many companies’ failing at this point. They would have been trying all sorts of random actions without any clear direction, which in most cases unfortunately just made it worse.

✅ Getting the client onboard is critical for the success.

No trust = No recovery. No implementation = No recovery. No resource prioritisation = No recovery.

Special thanks to Amelia Tovar Esteves , and your entire digital team, and the CEO of the company Salvador Esteve , for your amazing collaboration. And of course, for your generosity to allow us to share this story with the public and particularly the European eCommerce sector.

✅ Knowledge and previous experience working on Google Algorithmic penalty projects is priceless. I feel privileged to be part of this amazing SEO Team that was led by David Ruiz Sánchez and María Blanco. Your dedication and hard work paid off once again.
